My name is Spann and I live in a small town in middle Georgia called Griffin. For all my 51 years, I have been afflicted with a birth defect known as Cerebral Palsy. I was 2 and a half months premature which resulted in my lungs not being developed to get oxygen to my brain causing the birth defect.

In case you're not familiar with what Cerebral Palsy actually is, I will try and briefly explain. The word Cerebral refers to the cerebrum which is a part of the brain which controls motion. Palsy is fairly self-explanatory as it means the loss of ability to move a body part, or in the case of Cerebral Palsy, the loss of motion capability caused by injury to the cerebrum before, during or shortly after birth. In my situation, my Cerebral Palsy was caused by premature birth, which is a common cause of the condition. There is no known cure for Cerebral Palsy.

While I face many challenges in life due to my condition, I have found that it provides a completely different outlook on life. This being said, I try to use my condition in order to help others with their own disabilities.
